Freelance Pricing Guide

How to Set Your Hourly Rate?

Determine your target annual net income, add taxes and expenses, divide by annual billable hours. Research the market for competitive pricing.

Tips

  • Factor in taxes, insurance, and vacation days when setting your rate.
  • Your utilization rate will not be 100% — account for admin, marketing, and downtime.
  • Secure income stability with long-term agreements with regular clients.
  • Update your rate annually for inflation and experience growth.
  • Project-based pricing is generally more profitable than hourly billing.

Info

Take your target annual net income, add tax and business expenses, divide by annual billable hours. Example: 500,000 TL net target + 30% tax + 36,000 TL expenses = 750,000 TL gross needed. With 1,200 billable hours: 625 TL/hour.

It shows what portion of your total work hours are billable. Typically 60-80%. Remaining time goes to marketing, admin, training, and breaks. Pricing without accounting for this reduces your income.

Income tax bracket (15-40%) + SSI premium + withholding varies by income. On average, 25-35% of gross goes to tax and insurance. Work with an accountant for accurate estimates.
