What Is Average Cost?

Weighted average cost is found by dividing the total cost of all purchases at different prices by the total number of shares. This price is the base reference point for your profit/loss calculation.

Cost Averaging Strategy (DCA)

Investing a fixed amount at regular intervals helps lower your average cost during market fluctuations. You buy more shares when prices are low and fewer when high.

Avg. Cost = Total Cost / Total Shares = Sum(Price x Qty) / Sum(Qty)

Add up the costs of all buy transactions (price x quantity), then divide by total number of shares. Example: 100 shares x 10 TL + 200 shares x 8 TL = 2,600 TL total cost. Average for 300 shares = 8.67 TL.

If you trust the company, buying on dips lowers your average cost. However, buying every dip can be risky. Make decisions based on fundamental analysis and keep position sizes under control.

Weighted average shows your true cost basis. How much you bought at each price matters. Buying 100 shares at 10 TL and 10 shares at 5 TL gives a weighted average of 9.55 TL, not the simple average of 7.50 TL.
